Buckner's First Pitch

The hoopla over Bill Buckner throwing out the first pitch is extremley overblown and once again we see the media latching on to their scapegoat and not willing to let it go. Any Sox fan can tell you that the grief of the 1986 world series was extreme, but that Buckner was not soely to blame and others such as Calvin Schiraldi, Bob Stanley and Manager John McNamara were just as much to blame as Buckner for the series loss.

Bucker did recieve a standing ovation on opening day in 1987 as a member of the Red Sox and again in 1990 when he came back again as a member of the Red Sox in his last major league season. Buckner was a borderline hall of fame player with over 2,500 hits and a .289 career batting average over 22 seasons.

Buckner has signed photos of the infamous gaffe along with Mookie Wilson, I think that this just opens him up to any criticism he recieves, however, Buckner has also faced a lot of abuse at the hands of the media and fans over the years and just the sheer emotion he exhibited yesterday made this move the right move, unlike the sweet caroline debacle that happened later on in the game.
